THE BOROUGH SPORTS GROUND, GANDER GREEN LANE

Here’s a page about our beloved home - The Borough Sports Ground in Gander Green Lane. On this page you’ll find information about the ground and a selection of links that will be useful for away supporters or those U’s fans planning an away trip.

Sutton United F.C.,
The Borough Sports Ground,
Gander Green Lane,
Sutton, Surrey, SM1 2EY.

Sutton United play their home games at The Borough Sports Ground although fans more commonly refer to the ground as Gander Green Lane, the road in which it resides. The ground has a capacity of 7,032 of which 1,250 is covered terracing following the completion of the Securicor Terrace a couple of seasons ago. In 1970, before ground and safety improvements, 14,000 spectators crammed into the ground for The U’s FA Cup Fourth Round Match against Leeds United. The main stand, pictured below during 2002/03's pre-season friendly with AFC Wimbledon, has 765 seats.

The pitch is quite a long way from the terracing, especially at the Collingwood Road End, because the ground used to include a running track and long-jump pit. This has the effect of making the crowd seem even quieter than it actually is as the fans are well spread out.

See aerial photographs of the ground and surrounding area at multimap.com or streetmap.co.uk.

The ground houses a number of facilities including the clubhouse, which is open everyday, and five function rooms, the largest of which, the Allders Lounge, seats 180 and has a dance floor and stage. All these rooms are available for hire by contacting the club on 020 8644 4440.

This season, admission prices are £10 for adults, £5 for O.A.Ps and students and £3 for under 16s. Transfer to the stand is an additional £1. Programmes are £2. The club shop is open on every home match day and stocks a large variety of souvenirs including replica kits, metal badges and programmes. The ground has two Tea Bars, one at the end of the Main Stand and Rose’s Tea Hut, which is located on the Collingwood Rec. side of the ground.

TRAVELLING TO GANDER GREEN LANE

By Car From M25

Those travelling clockwise should leave at Junction 8 and turn onto the A217. Stay on the A217 all the way to Sutton and, after about 8.6 miles, turn right at a set of traffic lights (The Gander Public House) into Gander Green Lane. The ground is on the left after about half a mile.

Those travelling anti-clockwise should leave at Junction 10 and turn onto the A3. At Tolworth, join the A240 (Kingston Road) by taking the right exit off a large roundabout. After about two miles turn left onto the A24 (London Road) at the Jim Thomson’s Restaurant (Formerly The Organ Inn). Follow the A24 for two miles, then turn right into Gander Green Lane shortly after passing St. Anthony’s Hospital. The ground is just under a mile away on the left.
